Five signs of bad metabolic health

Diseases like heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure does not occur overnight. It is due to cumulative effects of bad metabolic health for 20-30 years. Its a good news, because, if we can correct our metabolic health, we can prevent or delay the onset of these diseases

Your metabolic health is not sound if you have one of the following features or signs and symptoms.

Abdominal circumference >37 inches males and 32 inches female. The risk become severe if tummy size is >40 inches (male) and > 35 inches (female)

Blood pressure. If your blood pressure (BP) is >120/80. People  including doctors, consider BP up to 140/90 as normal, which is erroneous. As per American Heart Association, BP above 140/90 is grade II hypertension. A BP between 120-130 is termed as elevated BP and 130-140 is called grade I hypertension. Lowering of BP by drugs is a must if BP is > 140/90. Below this value, the BP is not normal, but instead of medicines, life style changes must be adopted to reduce the risk.

Blood sugar. Blood sugar (BS) value above 88 mg/dl is a warning signal of bed metabolic health. It heralds onset of insulin resistance and inflammation in the body. One may say that in medical practice, fasting BS> 100 is taken as pre-diabetic and postprandial (PP) BS >200 is considered as diabetic, so why this new threshold. One must understand that the conventional value of fasting and PP BS is for diagnosis of diabetes (not bad metabolic health), which is relatively advanced stage. If you can modify your lifestyle at this stage, you can prevent diabetes forever.

Triglyceride. Triglyceride (TG) value> 150 puts you at high risk

HDL. HDL value <45 mg/dl (male) and <50 mg/dl (female) indicates bad metabolic health.

If you have anyone of the above symptoms, you are at risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes, high BP, heart attack,  cancer and Alzheimer’s disease after 20-30 years.

Its now time to change your life styles to reset your health.
